Wearing Forever21 maxi slip dress (similar here & here), H&M sweater (similar gray one), Gucci belt bag, Saint Laurent Nu Pieds sandals, and earrings from ThePeachBox.
I’ve had this maxi slip dress in my closet for 2-years and it’s my first time wearing it. You might be wondering why I held onto it for so long. Well to be honest, I didn’t really know where to wear it too. It seemed too casual for a formal event like a wedding and too formal to wear to an everyday event like a dinner. I started experimenting with different ways to wear a slip dress to fit any occasion and found 3 easy ways to style it to fit your everyday life!
3 Easy Ways to Style a Maxi Slip Dress
- If it’s a bit chilly outside (like it always is in San Francisco), throw a sweater over it. This helps dress it down and turn your maxi slip dress into a maxi skirt. I like to tie the sweater on the side to help with proportions and to accentuate my waistline.
- Layer a long sleeve turtleneck or short sleeve tee under it like Andy, @andyheart. Make sure the color of the tee compliments the maxi skirt (black or white usually does the trick) and it fits snug (no-one likes a baggy underlayer).
- Pair it with booties and a black leather moto jacket like Jill @theaugustdiaries. This is the ultimate cool city girl way to wear a maxi slip dress. I have to warn you though, this only works if your dress hits you above the ankles, otherwise your shoes will blend in with the dress and there won’t be any separation. I’m debating hemming my maxi dress even shorter so I can wear it this way since it’s probably the most casual and easiest way to wear it.
I hope these 3 style tricks help the next time you don’t know what to wear with that maxi slip dress!
