One of my favorite places to travel to is the desert. It encompasses everything I love such as the sun, cacti, beautiful scenery, minimalism, along with a surrounding that compliments dressing bohemian chic. During my short weekend in Palm Desert, I visited Desert X, specifically the Phillip K Smith III exhibit. This exhibit focuses on 300 geometric reflectors, all angled at 10 degrees to show how the land and sky meet, but can never be seen the same as both are always changing. I loved how remote the location was and appreciated the simplicity yet meaning behind the architectural choice of the reflectors. Although the Desert X exhibit is now over (ended April 30, 2017), the Doug Aitken mirage is still open and located in Palm Springs and somewhere I plan to visit during my next Southern California desert adventure. If you’re ever in Palm Springs, I highly recommend checking it out.
