How my week-long getaway changed my perspective

Dealing with COVID-19 has been rough for everyone in some way. For me personally, I started to feel like I was losing a sense of self since I stopped experiencing the majority of things that make me happy. I get my energy from other people, working-out, productivity, and being a social butterfly. After having none of that for multiple months, I caught myself feeling hopeless and sad.

It wasn’t until my week-long trip to Joshua Tree that I truly hit a reset button and was filled with so much gratitude that my soul got rejuvenated with happiness. Whenever I’m at Joshua Tree, I feel alive. It’s the one place I find tranquility, creativity and get nostalgic of all the good memories shared there, including our wedding. This time was extra special since Josh and I celebrated our wedding anniversary there and brought Gracie with us. It was the first time traveling with Gracie and although she wasn’t a fan of the desert, it was meaningful to experience the magic of Joshua Tree with her as a family.

Some reflections I had during my Joshua Tree staycation:

  1. Things are never as bad as they seem.
  2. To be healthy is the most beautiful thing we often take for granted.
  3. A change of scenery can shift your perspective in seeing how green the grass actually is from where you stand.
  4. California is full of beautiful nature escapes. If you live in California, you are lucky to have driving access to so many scenic destinations.
  5. Your families happiness affects your own happiness. Prioritize your family and always show your appreciation for them.
  6. To love your job and have your work seen by billions of people around the world is a pretty big deal, and fkn awesome.
  7. Always make time to do the things that make you happy.
  8. Eat well and with gratitude, especially if someone else cooked for you.
  9. Never forget where you started and how far you’ve come.
  10. It is possible to thrive even in unusual circumstances, you just have to get creative and work harder to figure it out.
